Kindness Gala 2019
I had the greatest pleasure meeting this wonderful group of people at the Kindness Gala this month. I admit, I was unaware of the true impact and scope of this organization before this evening. Hearing the stories told was truly powerful and heartbreaking, and evoked tears within many in the crowd. Not only was it powerful to hear stories of loved ones who had fought cancer, but it was powerful to hear the accomplishments of local organizations who support the families who are fighting. Joliet Pink Heals Chapter, for example, is a volunteer-run group of police and firefighters who raise awareness and funds for local families. They were one of two organizations honored at the Kindness Gala this year, with the other being Chanooka Wish. Links to both groups can be found below :) Chanooka Wish serves the Channahon and Minooka region, running food, school supply, and toy drives for children in the community (among other things!). The list of local business who donated raffle prizes or sponsored the event is long, and it was heartwarming to see such an outpouring of support. A huge shoutout to Amy Logan, author of A Girl With a Cape, for doing such an amazing job organizing a fun evening. The games were popular and kept everyone laughing, and I personally witnesses some fierce bidding at the silent auction. Many of the guests went home loaded with prizes and winnings! It was truly an awesome evening meeting so many influential women in our community and seeing how much they accomplish with their organizations. I can't wait for next year!
